Demo Walkthrough of Duscae Region in Final Fantasy XV

FFXV4

A small portiom of Final Fantasy XV’s Duscae region was shown in FFXV’s 2-3 hour glorified demo entitled Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae. This will be included in first day editions of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD when it arrives on the 17th of March.

The demo starts with a scene featuring the main central character, Noctis, and his three friends, Gladiolus, Ingis, and Prompto. They woke up in a tent in the Duscae wilderness from what seemed to be a long night. They needed cash to get the broken car, in which they were traveling in, fixed. They walk around and they see a sign posted showing a bounty for Behemoth, a local monster.

Gladiolus offer to teach Noctis how to fight before they embark on that mission. This part is actually an optional tutorial. FFXV has that action open world RPG feel brought about by its direct control in real time combat. Also, this is different from other FF games where you get to control other party members and determine their actions, as this time, you can only control the character of Noctis and party members control themselves.

If you play the game on PS4, holding down the square button will give Noctis a continuous attack. The L1 button allows Noctis to dodge attacks, and sometimes to parry and counterattack. However, you should remember that defending uses MP. You can allow Noctis to regenerate his MP and HP by having him warp or teleport away from harm. Also, remember to manage your MP use efficiently as warping also uses them up. It is an important part of game, especially during the early stages of the game. You can’t defend yourself, and you slow yourself down when you run out of MP.

FFXV Walkthrough

Pressing right on the D-pad will allow Noctis to carry several weapons and switch between weapons when in combat. A different attack comes with each weapon, for example a dragoon leap or a lunge attack. You can focus on one enemy by pressing R1. You can use a warp attack by pressing X.

The journey to kill the Behemoth start after the Gladiolus training session. It is only in a small part of the Duscae region, but the journey gives the impression of Ducae being far bigger than imagined. The journey consists of traveling through a beautiful mix of green forests, swampy marshlands, rocky terrain, and grasslands.

You will encounter creatures and soldiers that you need to fight off when you run around the map. This earns you XP. You can have food to cook later by hunting some of the local wildlife. You can also have some stuff to sell or use later by picking up items around.

In order to find the Behemoth, you need to track his movements thru footprints, leftover animal carcasses, or claw marks. You have to do that as quietly and as invisible as possible. Staying out of sight is made easier with the thick fog. You have to follow the Behemoth back to his lair. That is where the excitement of the game is. The hiding and the sneaking around.

Arriving in the Behemoth’s lair, a plan will be devised on how to kill him. It involves an exhilarating part where Noctis, your character, has to lead the Behemoth into a series of traps.

However, remember that you won’t be able to carry over any XP, buffs or items acquired in Episode Duscae into the final game.

There is no official date as to the release of Final Fantasy XV, but Episode Duscae will be your best bet on getting a taste of what the game will bring.

Noctis and a Quick Guide to the Final Fantasy XV Lore

FFXV1

Final Fantasy XV is set in a world where crystals contain immeasurable amounts of both political and military power. Countless wars have been waged over these all-powerful crystals, and almost all of them have been lost to these same conflicts. In their efforts to regain the power these lost crystals once gave them, nations have focused their efforts on gaining military power, leaving the other aspects of civilized life far behind. Only one country has truly managed to surpass this issue. By keeping their crystal safe since time immemorial, the nation of Lucis has modernized far past the standards of the rest of the world.

FFXV EnemiesNoctis Lucis Caelum has lived a prosperous and happy life. As the prince of Lucis, the most technologically-advanced nation in the world, he enjoys a certain amount of prestige and power. Surrounded by friends and advisers who have, in part, been brought up to support him, Noctis, the heir apparent, is all set to become the next king of Lucis who shall bring it even higher in the world. A childhood incident has even given Noctis the power to sense other people’s deaths, a power he will doubtless use to improve the fate of Lucis as a whole.

Refer to Final Fantasy XV lore, the cold war that has long raged between the nations of Lucis, Niflheim, Solheim, Tenebrae and Accordo over the power of the mystical crystals is about to be ended. Lucis and Niflheim, the most powerful nations in the conflict, have entered agreements for a treaty which shall be signed on this fateful day…

FFXV GameplayThey should have known that it would never be that easy. Lucis’ hope for worldwide peace is shattered in a matter of days. On the day when the conflict should have ended, it instead begins in full. It is no longer a cold war, stuck in stalemate. It has become a full blown conflict. Instead of coming in peace, Niflheim invades Lucis and steals its crystal, the source of its technological might and military power. Caught off guard by the unexpected and brutal invasion, Lucis has no way to fight back as its primary defense, an anti-armament runewall, has been disabled by the canny Niflheim army from the inside. Lucis, the most powerful nation in the world of Final Fantasy XV, is no more.

But not all hope is lost. Noctis and his companions manage to escape during the fateful conflict. As Lucis falls to pieces behind them, they now embark on a journey that spans the world in an effort to regain Lucis’ lost power, defeat Niflheim, and put Noctis back in the place he once took for granted.
